I started working with Matt a few years ago, helping him edit his website. I was immediately impressed with the variety of the work he was shooting each year. Working for a small newspaper can be hectic with an endless list of assignments, often, none of them near the other, giving you barely enough time to breathe. But Matt has thrived in this environment. Working at The Daily Republic, Matt continues to explore the community and surprises me with images I’ve never seen before.
While contests aren’t the only measurement for success, he’s done quite well for himself in the last two years. His hard work got him recognized in POYi: First Place Sports Photographer of the Year and Third Pace Sports Photographer of the Year. For NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism, he was Runner-Up Photographer of the Year (small market) and third Place Sports Photographer of the Year. But wait, there’s more. He was also NPPA Monthly Clip Contest Photographer of the Year, twice! These are the major highlights.
Way to go Matt!
